Liz Huff, Councillor, Leeds and the Thousand Islands, has been appointed by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) Board of Directors to fill a vacancy in the Rural Caucus. As a member of the Board, Liz will help set policy for the Association and serve as a key municipal leader in Ontario. “AMO benefits from membership from across the Province, and a Board that reflects the diversity of Ontario’s municipal governments. To that end, I am pleased to have Liz on the 2014-2016 Board team,” said Gary McNamara, AMO President. AMO’s key advocacy priorities are focused on achieving fiscal sustainability for municipal governments, advancing federal, provincial partnerships for infrastructure and strengthening municipal legislative authority to advance local economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. AMO supports strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.
"Meet ‘n Greet"
Last Meet ‘n Greet organized by Ron Rudd was very successful. Chamber Vice- President, John Sideris encouraged a round table discussion whereby Chamber members introduced themselves to one another and it definitely created an atmosphere of solidarity.
Mayor was present and gave a very uplifting speech
Opportunity to make existing members more actively involved
Opportunity to give non members an incentive to join
Opportunity to have members get to know one another and discuss common issues that might be of interest to Chamber
Creates a better awareness about what other businesses are doing
Opportunity to hand out information about Chamber –“starter kit”
Opportunity to have a guest speaker talk about the commercial potential in our area
Members needed to oversee the following:
Find a good location that is preferably owned by a Chamber member
Eg Golf Course, Legion, Camp Hyanto, Fire Hall
Put together a “Starter Kit” that includes door decals, copy of constitution, calendar of events and a Chamber Member list.
Include a questionnaire about what area he/she may be able to help the Chamber in upcoming events.

Chamber Fishing Derby
What better way to bring more people from outside our area, than a fishing derby
In keeping with “first impressions” a Derby allows the Chamber the opportunity to promote and market the resources that we have; namely our beautiful lakes and everything that comes with that.
Opportunity for event tent as a fund raiser
Chamber will take on the organizing of running the Derby
Recruiting of prizes will be necessary.
Local advertising will be necessary
Creating our Derby as must attend annual event, can be best done by cash prizes as well
Funds needed for Chamber tent to act as Derby headquarters and fund raiser
Large banner to acknowledge and publicize the Derby
Each person who signs up for the Derby would pay a registration fee that would include a welcoming bag kit containing Derby rules, map of the area, discount coupons to local establishments. This will guarantee participants spend money and support local establishments

Lyndhurst Seeleys Bay “Yellow Balloon Day”
Preferably a spring weekend (May long weekend) as it would serve to create interest in our area early in the season.
Should be a 2 day event
The Chamber will encourage potential new buyers of commercial real estate from outside our region into the Lyndhurst /Seeley’s Bay area. The focus will be on commercial real estate but certainly is open to other venues
Opportunity to create awareness of what our region has to offer
Promoting a specific day makes it a special event in which people who never considered our area before, would now be aware that we exist !
This event is the first part of a five year plan, as it now becomes a way to keep in touch with potential buyers.
Enables the Chamber to periodically e-mail this group of buyers
There is also the advantage of linking this newly founded group of potential investors to the Municipal Website under “Investment Opportunity”
May encourage people who have properties for sale to “spruce” them up for this day
Encourages agents to get their listings ready
Improves first impression of the area.
Could be combined with “Victoria Day in the Villages”
The Chamber has to decide which area(s) would be the most suitable target eg. Kingston, Belville,Oshawa
The Chamber will need to promote the event with lead up newspaper advertising, radio advertising, outdoor signage,
Arrange to have an interview on radio/Cogeco
Coin the special event with a catch phrase like “Yellow Balloon Day” and have yellow balloons on all identified places that are available for viewing.
The Chamber needs to address organized bus transportation, provide a luncheon, as well as an itinerary of places to see.
We will need to keep a data base of all those who attend and build off of that
Establish link to town website “Investment Opportunity”
Note: If one person buys something then that is alone a good reason for the Chamber to support such an event as part of a long term plan as it indicates we are going in the right direction
Advertising * Bus Transportation * Luncheon
*Miscellaneous (eg: Chamber decals with logo could be placed on bags, place settings, gift tags etc)

The website is the face of our Chamber and as such could use a lift.
It provides the Chamber with an opportunity to show how it can play an important function in the business community and this reflects well for the Township.
The website is imperative for communicating business related news information and upcoming community events, to members of the Chamber as well as the community in general
Link with township
This will involve paying a company to manage in a more professional manner
We need to improve from where we are now to a higher level of expertise!
The Chamber has three knowledgeable representatives to act as a liaison between the Website Company and the Chamber. We want to make sure that what the Chamber wants and needs gets properly communicated on the website.

Chamber Annual Award Presentations
This would be held towards the end of the Chamber Calendar Year!
An Award Presentation Event is a common practice of many area Chambers. All Chamber members would be invited to a dinner/dance where Community Distinction Awards would be handed out not only to Chamber members but to those individuals who have in some way enhanced our community
Such a major event attempts to embrace both Communities while recognizing the achievements of those who spend endless hours in order to create better first impressions of our community.
An award event provides a forum for the Chamber and Community to meet on a social basis.
Great opportunity for achievement recognition
An event such as this is an opportunity to promote more members getting involved
Members needed to: Arrange hall rental and appropriate décor for this event. Camp Hyanto offers a different theme approach here!
Creating a system of deciding what categories warrant merit and deciding on what type of award to present
